What is hard vs soft water?
Hard water, or unsoftened water, typically contains a number of chemicals and minerals that can cause damage to pipes and taps, cause dishes & clothing to not be efficiently cleaned, and even skin and hair from being thoroughly cleaned as well. Soft water is water that has been treated and cleaned of these chemicals and minerals.
Where is a water softener installed?
Water softeners are typically installed wherever the water mains are located on your property. In most cases, a water softener will be installed in the basement.
How does a water softener work?
Water softeners work by running your usual hard water supply through a reservoir that contains cation resin that extracts the minerals / chemicals (namely calcium and magnesium) and replace them with harmless sodium ions. This water is then distributed through the taps in your home.
What happens if there is a power outage?
Water softeners don’t use electricity to make soft water, so if there is a power outage, your water softener will continue to make soft water. You might need to reset the time when the power comes back on.
Will I ever run out of softened water?
Our softeners have water meters integrated into them and will regenerate your softener capacity when it reaches a certain percentage As long as you regularly refill the salt in the reservoir, you won’t run out of softened water.
Can I drink softened water?
Yes, softened water complies with drinking water regulations. We do however suggest the use of a reverse osmosis system for your drinking water.
